The Hampshire Cos. has officially opened its newest luxury rental property in Hackensack, Ora, a 271-unit development at 321 Main St. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the completion of the seven-story building, which was built on a site previously home to surface parking lots and aging commercial buildings. This project is part of Hackensack’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its Downtown Rehabilitation Zone, which has been a focal point for development since 2012.
James E. Hanson II, CEO and president of Hampshire, reflected on the significance of the project, emphasizing his family's long-standing ties to Hackensack. “It’s a labor of love, always, to try to bring something to fruition,” he said. The development features a range of amenities, including a club room on the seventh floor, fitness center, dog walking area, several terraces, structured parking, and retail space on the ground level.
Ora joins several other successful developments in Hackensack by Hampshire, including a new 82-unit building at 389 Main St. and the large Print House development, which brought nearly 700 new rental units to the former Bergen Record headquarters site.
The project was designed by MVMK and developed in partnership with Russo Development, who also manages leasing and operations. Other key contributors include Fulton Bank, Valley Bank, JT Engineering, KEA Engineers, L2A Land Design LLC, and general contractor Sharp Management LLC.
Hackensack officials praised the city’s transformation, which has been propelled by the Downtown Rehabilitation Zone plan. The plan has sparked the development of thousands of residential units, new retail spaces, and public areas, significantly reshaping the city’s skyline. Mayor John Labrosse remarked, "Hackensack doesn’t look anything like it did 10 years ago, so we’re very proud of that
